Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA has begun construction of their Lodge Renovation and Expansion project, which is the first piece of their multi-year Renewal efforts. The Ground Honoring Ceremony, held on March 15, featured speakers from the Four Winds Council, of which Esalen is a party, including an opening blessing by Tom "Little Bear" Nason, who summoned whales to join in the celebration (and join they did, with spouts and flukes!).

We are delighted to celebrate, with the Natural Grocery Company, the one-year anniversary of the opening of their Prepared Food Annex. The Annex has become a neighborhood favorite and, throughout February, they are welcoming some popular suppliers for demos and sample goodies. Swing by and bring an appetite.

The New York Times featured an Arkin Tilt project in an article titled "Smart Style," in their January 2015 Homes special section. The article explores the features of the Eastern Sierra Residence that make it an ecologically sound design, ranging from proper solar orientation to on-site energy production.

We are thrilled to be working with the Esalen Institute on a renovation and expansion of their historic Lodge building.  The completed project will feature two new meeting rooms, an expanded commercial kitchen facility, a new cafe, covered outdoor dining areas and a remodeled dining room. The renowned geothermal water resource will be utilized for water and space heating. The new roof surfaces will carry a 25 KW photovoltaic panel array.
