Eastern Sierra Residence in the NY Times

The New York Times featured an Arkin Tilt project in an article titled "Smart Style," in their January 2015 Homes special section. The article explores the features of the Eastern Sierra Residence that make it an ecologically sound design, ranging from proper solar orientation to on-site energy production.

Sweetwater Springs Ranch

Sweetwater Springs Ranch is an off-grid Straw Bale and Watershed Block (earth masonry unit) home in Sonoma County, California. Located in a sensitive watershed area, the design and construction of the home took great measures to ensure a harmonious fit with minimal impact on the landscape. The house is for a couple with young twin girls.

The Esalen Lodge

We are thrilled to be working with the Esalen Institute on a renovation and expansion of their historic Lodge building.  The completed project will feature two new meeting rooms, an expanded commercial kitchen facility, a new cafe, covered outdoor dining areas and a remodeled dining room. The renowned geothermal water resource will be utilized for water and space heating. The new roof surfaces will carry a 25 KW photovoltaic panel array.

Olive Party 2014

It is the start of the holiday season, and that means we're already dreaming up ideas for Olive Party 2015.

In addition to the olives collected and cured by David, last year’s Olive Party featured live music by One Grass Two Grass Red Grass Bluegrass! Anthony Dente, one of our KDSE officemates, played fiddle and sang, while Kevin Donahue got into the action on accordion for a few songs. The band played in front of the office in a site-built straw bale band shell, while guests played games, danced along to the music, and enjoyed the delicious olives.
