The Australian Institute of Architects, New South Wales Chapter, recently featured an article by Bec Evans, an Arkin Tilt project manager (who recently moved back home to Australia). In Natural Building Materials for Carbon-conscious Design, Evans writes about her work with Arkin Tilt and highlights straw bale construction as a means of addressing climate change.

In early October, a determined crew of friends, family, designers and builders descended on the oak-studded Dommaschk-Broderick property in Prunedale to insulate a small guest house with straw bales.

ATA project Mahonia Mixed-Use Building won AIA Eugene's People's Choice Award in the Commercial category. We are excited that this project -- featuring good daylighting, straw bale insulated offices and a variety of salvaged materials -- was recognized with an award.

Mahonia's tenant improvements, done by our friends at Nir Pearslon Architect, Inc. in Eugene, also won the Award in the Interiors category.

Arkin Tilt Architects was featured in “Bay Area Bountiful: Sustainable Living,” a video produced by Northern California Public Media that showcases innovative sustainable design. Watch Anni Tilt and the homeowners demonstrate the features of “Project Green Home," a LEED Platinum, zero net-energy, Passive House certified home.

Bike To Work Day

It has become an annual office tradition to participate in the Bay Area Bike to Work Challenge!  This year is the best we’ve ever done in the history of ATA / VSE’s involvement with bike to work challenge!

In Alameda County (93 total teams), we placed 8th overall, and 1st for companies w/ 7-19 participant (notably, besting Bike East Bay by 500 points!).

For the Entire Bay Area (348 total teams):  34th overall and 2nd for companies w/ 7-19 participants (behind the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, who had 10 riders; we had 8).
