The Australian Institute of Architects, New South Wales Chapter, recently featured an article by Bec Evans, an Arkin Tilt project manager (who recently moved back home to Australia). In Natural Building Materials for Carbon-conscious Design, Evans writes about her work with Arkin Tilt and highlights straw bale construction as a means of addressing climate change.

In early October, a determined crew of friends, family, designers and builders descended on the oak-studded Dommaschk-Broderick property in Prunedale to insulate a small guest house with straw bales.

ATA project Mahonia Mixed-Use Building won AIA Eugene's People's Choice Award in the Commercial category. We are excited that this project -- featuring good daylighting, straw bale insulated offices and a variety of salvaged materials -- was recognized with an award.

Mahonia's tenant improvements, done by our friends at Nir Pearslon Architect, Inc. in Eugene, also won the Award in the Interiors category.

Arkin Tilt Architects was featured in “Bay Area Bountiful: Sustainable Living,” a video produced by Northern California Public Media that showcases innovative sustainable design. Watch Anni Tilt and the homeowners demonstrate the features of “Project Green Home," a LEED Platinum, zero net-energy, Passive House certified home.

In the tradition of an Amish Barn Raising, Arkin Tilt led the Jennings family, friends and neighbors in a Straw Bale-Raising at their new home in Martinez, California.

We are pleased to announce that after many months of dotting ‘i’s and crossing ’t’s, our Canyon Road Bridge House has been certified by the US Green Building Council as LEED Certified - Platinum Level, their top designation.  We’re grateful to our ATA project manager Devin Kinney, contractor Prull Custom Builders, LEED specialists Steve Onstadt and Dee Bangert, and all the other sub consultants and subcontractors.  And of course the owner, Mark Stibich and the late Julie Stachowiak, who tragically spent only one year living in

Check out the June/July issue of Western Art & Architecture; featuring our Watershed Straw Bale Residence and Canyon Road Bridge House projects.  The article, titled ‘Connectivity and Delight’, begins on page 88.  Writer Laurel Delp did a nice job capturing the priorities that have guided our practice for over 20 years, illustrated with two of our favorite projects.

We are happy to announce that our Fir St. Telluride project won the 2018 Fine Homebuilding Magazine Editor's Choice Award. Kudos to the great team!
